Creating and Integrating a Finance Structure within Nursing
Presented by
Pat Grunwald, MSN – Chief Nursing Officer, Meriter Hospital
Carolyn Krause, PhD, RN – Director of Patient Care Systems Support, Meriter Hospital
Randy Malmquist, MBA – Senior Finance Manager, Meriter Hospita
For the last 2½ years, Meriter Health in Madison, WI has benefitted from having an integrated finance structure within nursing. Following leadership and organizational changes in 2007 and 2008, nurse managers became more involved with the budget process. That involvement and accountability brought a steep learning curve and created the opportunity to bring financial expertise onto the nursing team.
Learn how Meriter Health developed the Senior Manager of Nursing Finance position on the nursing team as a liaison to the finance department. The Meriter team will share the early steps they took to ensure that the nursing team saw the Senior Finance Manager as a non-intimidating, friendly face of finance that they felt comfortable asking questions and collaborating with. Take a look at the projects, discoveries and successes Meriter Health achieved during the first year with finance expertise embedded within the nursing structure. Gain a better understanding of how this structure has impacted both clinical and financial goals and what their plans are moving forward.

Talent Optimization: The Key to Making Healthcare Reform
Work for Hospitals
Presented by J.P. Fingado, President and CEO, API Healthcare
With all the attention healthcare reform is getting from the media, one key component is not being discussed nearly enough; the looming shortage of healthcare workers. With the passage of healthcare reform, the United States will invest $940 billion into the healthcare industry, yet it is unclear if there will be enough healthcare professionals to provide the care that will be needed to accommodate the influx of the newly insured.
With the bulk of reform creating a greater demand for healthcare services scheduled to take place over the next 10 years, a perfect storm is brewing and unless something is done now, there is potential for significant consequences in the future. Hospitals must strategize now and develop new workforce management processes that enhance efficiency, workforce satisfaction and patient outcomes.
In this webinar you will learn which processes to evaluate when developing a strong workforce management program for your organization.
